Vehicles in German City Found Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were alerted by a resident who noticed a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Police then discovered many other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.

A senior representative commented the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
