The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Struggling Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Comes After Mixed Feedback

The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a distinct game identity.

The president expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Hires

The news follows a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire content from Ismailer's memo:

Dear Team—

I know you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”

Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last fall’s the game demo was informative. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the criticism to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to achieve its potential to our audience.

The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of the team. Following some time of discussions, Ben officially joins us on next week.

His guidance and experience in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most well-known series in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in welcoming Ben next week. We are all excited to continue witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to come.

David

Experience of the New Leader

The appointee currently serves in the position of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in diverse production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, before that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Details and Concept

Project Ethos was revealed in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an innovative evolution on the genre."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description states. "Challenge the competition with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that shift every match. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, risk it all, and trust your team can earn top ranking? The decision is up to you."

The game lacks an official debut schedule or platforms, but fans can expect more updates as development advances.
